On the other hand, he drastically distorts 20th century art history to
fit his own philosophical agenda, something that requires rejecting
expressionism as one genuine movement within Modernism, for example, and
ends by declaring the end of art history. (Daniel Herwitz documents why
this seriously distorts art history in a book whose title escapes me now,
but which I will look up if anyone is interested.) To his credit, the
band-wagon Danto is on is of his own making, but in professional academic
philosophy that is one road to success. - George
